WHAT IF I'M UNSURE ABOUT MY SKILL LEVEL?

We encourage you to attend a tryout session. Tryouts are designed to identify potential, not perfection. Many players underestimate themselves — attending gives coaches the opportunity to see your strengths, your effort, and your readiness to develop within the program.

WHAT IF I HAVE TRIED OUT FROM PRIOR SEASONS AND WASN'T ACCEPTED?

You should still attend the upcoming tryout. Player development is not linear — athletes grow at different rates, gain confidence, improve technically, and mature physically and mentally over time. A previous result doesn’t define your future. Each tryout is a fresh evaluation, and coaches look for progress, commitment, and emerging potential. Returning to try out again shows resilience and dedication, both of which matter in the selection process.

I'M A RETURNING BLACK GOLD FC ATHLETE, DO I STILL NEED TO TRY-OUT?

Yes. All athletes , including returning Black Gold FC athletes, wishing to join the program for the 2026–27 program are expected to participate in the annual tryout. This ensures every player is evaluated consistently each season and placed appropriately within the program’s development pathway.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE TRY-OUT DATE?

WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?

To participate in the tryout, players must arrive fully equipped. For safety reasons, any player who arrives without proper equipment will not be permitted to take part in the evaluation and will forfeit their Tryout Registration Fee.

Required Equipment

  • Shin guards
  • Comfortable running shoes or outdoor cleats (cleats are preferred for traction on the field)
  • Athletic wear without local club or community league branding
  • A filled water bottle — there is no water‑filling station at the field

WHAT IF I'M NOT ACCEPTED?

If you’re not selected this season, depending on where you live, there are excellent community and recreational soccer programs within the Battle River District. These programs offer meaningful development experiences and provide a positive environment for players to have fun, grow, stay active, build confidence, and continue developing their love for the game.
