 GENERAL RULE

When a cancellation occurs and BGFC is the home team, the BGFC home team must submit Match Update Notice by 10:00 a.m. the day after the scheduled game, stating the reason for the cancellation. Forms submitted after the deadline will result in late game sheet score admin fees, issued starting at 1:00 p.m. which will NOT be covered by BGFC or LSA.

UNLESS aqi is 7 or higher at the scheduled check time, team officials cannot make cancellation decisions on thier own and are therefore required to report to their match or risk forfeiture.

WHERE TO CHECK AQI READINGS

  1. This is the AQI Canada Weather Link that teams and referees are required to use for any Air Quality Index Readings
  2. For games played within the City of Edmonton, AQI levels can vary significantly by area, so we will rely on readings from the individual substations. You can view the current substation data here:
    • Edmonton East – for the area south of the river and east of Calgary Trail.
    • Edmonton McCauley – for the area north of the river and east of highway 2.
    • Edmonton Lendrum - for the area south of the river and west of Calgary Trail.
    • Woodcroft - for the area north of the river and west of highway
  3. For games in the City of Spruce Grove, please use the St. Albert AQI reading.

When to Check and Apply AQI Readings

  • Weekdays: Check the AQI at 4:00 PM, regardless of when it was last updated.
  • Weekends: Check the AQI 1 hour before your game start time, regardless of the last update time.
  • Games in Red Deer or Teams Traveling From Red Deer: Check the AQI 3 hours before game start time, regardless of when it was last calculated.

Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) Game Policy

  1. AQI 1–6
    • The game will proceed as scheduled. Teams are required to appear at the field; failure to do so will result in a forfeit.
  2. AQI 7 OR HIGHER just before kickoff or during the game
    • The referee will cancel the match at the field.
    • If less than two‑thirds (⅔) of the game has been played, the match will be rescheduled (see rescheduling procedure on the next page).
    • If two‑thirds (⅔) or more has already been played, the game will be considered complete.
  3. AQI 7 or higher at the scheduled check time
    • The game will be automatically cancelled and rescheduled according to the rescheduling procedure.
    • Teams and referees do not need to report to the field.
  4. If the AQI is listed as “N/A” at 4:00 PM for that location
    • The last available AQI reading for that location will be used as the official value.
  5. Indoor Facilities Exception
    • Games played at the Edmonton Scottish Soccer Dome or the Red Deer Dome are not impacted by AQI levels, as they are held indoors on artificial turf. All scheduled games at these facilities will proceed regardless of outside air quality.
